Website Refresh and Performance Enhancement

WolfLabs are a UK reseller of laboratory equipment with over 300 product categories from 150 suppliers. A key factor to their success is having a fast, efficient and reliable website. ap16 were tasked with delivering the refreshed website presence for WolfLabs to tie in with their 30th anniversary. Key to our solution was a rationalisation of the database structure, enhancing caching methods, CMS extension and improvements to their SEO.

Website Refresh and Performance Enhancement

The Challenge

WolfLabs are a leading provider of laboratory products. They are a key supplier on numerous UK Government frameworks.  They emphasise good value for money, sustainability, customer service and sourcing from local providers.

WolfLabs do not rely on field-based sales representatives, they send no mailings and produce no hard copy marketing material. Their website is a vital component of their business. It provides their customer base with immediate access to ‘market - priced’ product information.

To coincide with their 30th anniversary of operation, WolfLabs required a comprehensive overhaul of their website, this included:

  • A design refresh to make the site more visually attractive, easier to navigate and more engaging.

  • Improved SEO ranking.

  • Improvements to the efficiency, consistency and accuracy of the database.

  • Extending the CMS to enable the maintenance of new Web Content.

The Approach

ap16 facilitated several information gathering workshops with WolfLabs’ managing director David Suddaby to document business and user requirements.

The final specification document was informed by outcomes from the workshop, combined with the knowledge and lessons learnt from supporting their former website.

Once ap16 had tested the first iteration of the system we worked in close collaboration with WolfLabs as they carried out testing.

This ensured quick feedback loops and quality assurance. We ran the new website alongside their former website to test the website in a live capacity before switching over to the new site.

Our Solution

ap16 implemented the design components created by WolfLabs’ chosen design agency to ensure responsiveness across the site.

We rationalised the database structure to improve the speed, efficiency, consistency and accuracy of the information presented.

We improved SEO ranking by using enhanced methods of caching to speed up the site and ensuring that WolfLabs have granular control of metadata.

ap16 delivered WolfLabs’ new site successfully, on time and in budget. Future enhancements are in the planning stages as we continue our great working relationship with WolfLabs.
